Woodworm, also known as wood-boring grubs, can cause extensive damage to timber structures within your home. These tiny pests burrow into wood, leaving small holes and intricate tunnels behind. Their eggs are laid on sapwood, the softer part of the wood. Once hatched, the larvae will begin burrowing deep into the beam’s core. Common furniture beetle larvae can stay in the beams for up to five years, while deathwatch larvae can remain for up to ten years.
Common furniture beetles create holes with a diameter of 2mm, while deathwatch beetles create holes up to 4mm. The latter are declining as they prefer oak, which is now rarely used in the building industry due to cost. Additionally, old beams protected with varnish or wood preservatives prevent deathwatch beetle eggs from penetrating the surface, contributing to their population decline.
Please note that, deathwatch beetle removal can be complex and costly to treat due to the nature of the grub inside. We may need to carry out a few treatments using gel and spray treatments to fully control deathwatch beetles in your beams.

They came out same day and sorted my wasp nest that was extremely active. Very polite over the phone and polite on the job. Would defiantly recommend and use again if ever needed. Thanks again guys.Posted on Google Georgie DeardenTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Thank you to BeeKind for saving the day! I thought I had mice scurrying around above my laundry room, but came home this evening with three small children in tow to a room full of very angry wasps who had eaten through the ceiling! Spoke to Kelly who was in the office and explained how worried I was. Instead of going home, Matt arrived with us an hour later and totally saved the day. It was a bigger nest than we thought but all sorted now and can sleep better this evening knowing we won’t have a swarm of angry wasps waiting for us at breakfast time. Really professional and all the knowledge, would highly recommend to anybody in need of help with an unwanted invasion. Thank you BeeKind Team!Posted on Google Jackie ChalkTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Matt responded quickly to my query about removing pigeons from under our solar panels. He organised the scaffolding and then arrived on time, to quickly move the pigeons out, before fixing a metal mesh all around to prevent re-entry. He is very communicative, friendly, reliable and knowledgeable.Posted on Google Alex HuddTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great service.Posted on Google Tim SydorTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Super happy with my experience of beekind. Communication was good, price was reasonable, matt is clearly an expert and was thorough. Doesn’t look easy relocating bees, but with patience and the right expertise it can clearly be done! Thank you!Posted on Google Paolo Del-grecoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I emailed this company for advice around bees nesting in my roof. Within an hour Matt had identified the type of bee from a video and given excellent advice that the bees were not causing harm, with further information about their behaviour and nature. A thoroughly honest and excellent service and I’m grateful I spoke to him before doing anything else about it.Posted on Google DebeTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Thank goodness for Matt! I left messages for three companies regarding to a rodent problem in our garden and firstly he was the only one to reply, secondly, although due to new rules and regulations he is unable to help with our intruders BUT (and its a very big BUT) he went out of his way to explain what we can do ourselves, what to purchase, how to do it in a safe and secure way - even when the telephone conversation was cut off due to bad reception he made sure he rang back and left a voice message repeating the advice and instructions so we have been able to follow it step by step - who could ask for more! An absolute star! We have now followed Matt's in depth instructions and will wait the results. Thank you so much Matt for sharing your wealth of knowledge and expertise and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone who needs your services - you'll definitely always be our first port of call.Posted on Google Mark DonaldTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I'd thoroughly recommend Matt to anyone faced with a very tricky / scary bee infestation. He's super responsive, knowledgeable and a very good communicator every step of the way. Moreover, Matt is generous with his time and sees sorting out additional problems that arise as a win-win. I hope the bees don't come back but I'll be straight on whatsapp to Matt if they do.Posted on Google DanielTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We recently used BeeKind Pest Control after discovering birds nesting in a vent on the side of our house, and I couldn’t be more impressed with the service from start to finish. Matt was excellent, clearly very knowledgeable, professional, and approachable. He took the time to explain everything, worked efficiently, and left the area clean and tidy once the job was complete, which really stood out. The whole process was seamless. Their booking system was straightforward, communication was clear throughout, and everything ran exactly as planned, which makes a big difference when you’re dealing with something unexpected at home. On top of that, the pricing was very fair for the quality of service provided. Overall, a really positive experience. I wouldn’t hesitate to use BeeKind Pest Control again and would highly recommend them to anyone needing a reliable and professional service.
Look out for small round exit holes (roughly 1–2mm for common furniture beetle), fine powdery dust called frass around timber, crumbling or weakened wood edges, and sometimes visible adult beetles near beams in spring. Fresh, light-coloured holes usually indicate an active infestation.
It's unlikely. While some infestations may slow down naturally over years as timber dries out, the larvae can remain active inside beams for several years, continuing to weaken the wood. Professional treatment is the only reliable way to stop the damage and confirm the infestation is fully controlled.
Adult beetles emerge from infested timber, mate, and lay eggs in cracks, joints, or exposed sapwood on nearby wood. Once hatched, the larvae burrow inward and can spread the infestation to adjoining beams, floorboards, or furniture over successive breeding seasons if left untreated.
